Equiphysique Physiotherapy
Equine Physiotherapy in Norfolk

I treat horses in Norfolk and surrounding areas, within an hour of Dereham. Just like my human physio treatment, the first step in any treatment will be a discussion with the owner and will often also involve veterinary input. The next step will usually be a gait assessment and a tissue and joint assessment. This enables me to formulate a treatment plan, which may include massage, join mobilisations and electrotherapy or similar. All treatment will be carried out on-site at your yard.
I will also recommend exercises that the owner can do with the horse themselves. This might include pole work, carrot/lick stretches and more.
If you are looking for a practitioner to treat your horse, it’s important to be aware that there are no legal requirements to have any qualifications to be able to offer equine physiotherapy, so choose your partner with caution. I’m an ACPAT registered vet physio which means I have undergone rigorous training which means your horse is in the best hands.

Rider Physiotherapy

Given my dual interest in human and equine physiotherapy, it’s a natural progression that I specialise in rider physiotherapy.
I have found from working with both people and horses that either presentation is closely linked to the presentation of the other. For example, a horse rider may be one side dominant, this will impact on the horse, often causing muscle imbalances. This is often not realised and once the rider (from assessment) becomes aware and a plan formulated to manage, the outcome of the equine treatment plan dramatically improves. The important thing to remember the horse and rider are one, if one has any issues it will affect the other.
Rider assessments are completed initially in clinic and, depending on whether injury or performance related, I would ideally work closely with horse and rider. This provides the best outcome and identifies patterns of often formed habits that are impacting on both parties.
